    Abstract

To reduce the impact of gun related crime, technology can be utilized to create detection systems. These systems have the capability to detect the occurrence of gunfire and through sound localization techniques determine origin of gunfire on a 2D plane. The proposed system takes a modular approach to its development and utilizes a distributed network of FPGA based acoustic sensors to create an area within which gunfire can be detected. A computer module is used for triangulation and nonlinear hyperbolic calculations to determine the origin of the gunfire based on sensory data. The results and testing of the individual modules and the overall system are reviewed in this paper.
